EDIBLE AND MEDICINAL USE OF THE MANTODEA (INSECTA)
Abstract
This study explores the edible (entomophagy) and medicinal (entomotherapy) uses of the Mantodea (mantis) worldwide. An exhaustive search of published articles and book chapters was used. The results mention that nine species (including a morphospecies) distributed in two families, are used for such purposes, documented in eight countries of the world. Finally, this study aims to set a precedent that would increase our confidence in traditional medicine, palatability to consume them and liking for mantis in society.
