Abstract

Family farming is the main responsible for food supply in Brazil and is directly linked to food security and rural development. With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, family farmers suffered economic impacts due to the social isolation established in order to contain the spread of the new coronavirus and avoid the collapse of the health system. In view of this, this work aimed to understand and analyze the difficulties of family farmers who make up the remaining quilombola community of Porto Alegre during the COVID-19 pandemic. As for the methodology, this research is characterized as bibliographic, exploratory and qualitative. Data collection occurred through the application of questionnaires in different family units that make up the community of Porto Alegre. The results of the research identified that the pandemic brought impacts, especially in relation to the disposal of production, increased social vulnerability, reduced income of producers and the risk of food insecurity.
