Abstract

Is presented a brief discussion based on Zea mays recovery among the archaeological remains excavated in occupation palimpsests in the Theban necropolis (Arab Republic of Egypt).  Also, by the review of ethnographical research and traveler’s accounts from the 19th and early 20th centuries, the adoption of this taxon by egyptian peasant communities is analyzed. Likewise, the entanglement of this taxon in local life and in archaeological sites enables us to reflect on heritage policies and links with local communities.
